Armenia

"If you want to know a destination with an exotic and alternative touch, halfway between East and West, do not hesitate: Armenia is your place."

When to visit

Winter

The winter months are the coldest months of the year, and if you’re traveling in mountainous areas, temperatures can drop quite a bit. When I say cold months, I mean really cold.

During the months of December, January and February, during the day, temperatures barely rise above freezing. But at night, the cold takes over, reaching an average of almost ten degrees below zero. Imagine what it can be like in mountainous areas, for example in the Debed Canyon, with the churches of Haghpat and Sanahin.
Another mountainous area that you will not enjoy in winter is Tatev. To get to Tatev you have to cross a rather impressive mountain road to Halidzor. But the best part comes later, as the best way to get to the monastery is to use the longest cable car in the world, Wings of Tatev.

Spring

This was the season we chose to travel to Armenia and Georgia. Normally, if traveling in Europe, the best months are these, since this is when the plants bloom, the days are longer. Also, these are usually the months when people enjoy the street life the most after being cooped up during the cold winter months.

The months of May and June are best, as temperatures are higher, above 20 and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively. And, although these temperatures vary depending on where you are, they are very pleasant.
At this time you can enjoy Lake Sevan, Noravank, or even reach Nogorno Karabakh or go to Khndzoresk, the city of caves.

Summer

In summer it is hot, very hot. To give you an idea, in the capital, Yerevan, temperatures in July and August are usually close to forty degrees. In the mountain areas, obviously, the temperature drops a little more.

If you finally decide to go in the months of July or August, I recommend that in the hottest places, you get a cap and do not forget to always carry water.

Autumn

Although September is still a bit hot, it is not as hot as July or August. In addition, September is a very dry month, it hardly rains, so the chances of a trip being ruined are very low.

In October temperatures drop a bit more, but hover around 20 degrees during the day. However, it is a somewhat rainy month, almost like April.

And November is when temperatures start to drop quite a bit, although it is a somewhat dry month.

Basic information

Top sights

Yerevan

Despite the fact that Yerevan is one of the oldest cities of mankind, and has been inhabited uninterruptedly for the longest time, there are not many traces of its past. Moreover, Yerevan is a modern city, its buildings are mostly from the 20th century. But even so, the sunsets of Mount Ararat make it a magical place.

The Cafesjian Center, The Cascade

An open-air museum, with sculptures by artists as important as the Colombian Botero, decorate this climb that tries to dominate, next to Mount Ararat, the city.

Mother Armenia

This huge sculpture seems to send a clear message, with her sword in one hand, to safeguard the country from anyone who dares to invade or attack it, so as to be a protective mother of the Armenians.

Opera House and its gardens

In Liberty Square is the Opera House with its gardens. A fashionable area within the city, with cafes and bars as a meeting place.
